Saskatoon Serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) is an extremely hardy shrub with beautiful white flowers in early spring, tasty berries in June, and orange to red color in fall. It is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with an upright spreading habit of growth. Blue berries are excellent for fresh eating, cooking and baking, and making jams and jellies. Self-pollinates. Mature height is 12 feet with 8 foot spread. Hardy to Zone 2. Grows from 5,000 to 10,000 ft. elevation in full sun to moderate shade. Prefers moist, well-drained soil; does not tolerate prolonged drought. Colorado native.
