Ponderosa Pine – San Isabel -Large Tube

Out of stock

Grown from seeds harvested in San Isabel National Forest. Pinus ponderosa is a large coniferous pine (evergreen) tree. The bark helps to distinguish it from other species. Mature to over-mature individuals have yellow to orange-red bark in broad to very broad plates with black crevices. Younger trees have blackish brown bark, referred to as “blackjacks” by early loggers. Ponderosa pine’s five races can be identified by their characteristic bright green needles. The Rocky Mountains race has short (3.6–5.7 in), stout needles growing in scopulate (bushy, tuft-like) fascicles of two to three. Ponderosa grow at elevations of 5,000 to 9,000 feet and can reach heights of 100 to 120 feet and 3 to 4 feet in diameter.
