Gayfeather (Liatris punctate) is a tuberous long-lived perennial native wildflower with rigid linear leaves, growing to 32 inches at maturity with comparable spread  on multi-stemmed plant. It produces stout spikes of fringed rose purple flowers in late summer that attract butterflies and bees. It is not usually browsed by deer. Hardy to Zone 3, it grows at 5,000 to 8,000 ft. elevation. Likes full sun and well-drained soils. Low water requirement because of deep tap root.
