Water Birch (Betula occidentalis), also known as Rocky Mountain Birch, commonly forms thickets along streambanks at elevations between 4,000 and 9,000 feet.  The tree may reach heights of 10 to 25 feet. Its mature spread is 15 to 20 feet. Bronze-red bark, yellow fall color. Requires additional moisture in dry winters. Hardy to Zone 4. Colorado native.
