Northern Catalpa (Catalpa speciose) is a large narrow upright tree A fairly large tree native to most of the central U.S. Catalpa has an upright, coarse and distinct form. Grows to about 50 feet in height and 25 feet in spread. Its asymmetrical, irregular appearance gives it a lot of character and it can be planted as a feature tree. The large, white, showy flowers provide the landscape with splash of interest during late May and June. Bean-like seed pods often remain on trees all winter and can be messy. Large heart-shaped leaves. Stems are brittle allowing breakage during early or late snow storms. Hardy to Zone 4. It is adapted to moist, high pH soil and full sun, but has been able to grow widely throughout North America. Elevation range to 7,000 feet
